In the UK More Women Than Ever Want to be Their Own Boss
So says a survey by the UK Government sponsored Business Link and they are quite right.Thousands of women have turned their back on the monthly salary cheque preferring instead to take the often daunting step of running their own businesses. All over the UK women are on the move – away from the dictates of the office and corporate environment, into the realms of the self-employed. Small businesses run by women are where you can find the different, the quirky and the original, redressing the balance of the multi-nationals in our high streets. We have gone through the industrial revolution away from the countryside and into the city and at that moment we are experiencing a small business revolution by women away from the institutions and city office, back to the home and local enviornment. Women are giving up striving to break through the ‘glass ceiling’ for in cases decorating those ceilings.A major factor in that change is the revolution in communications. With the advent of the internet, computer technology and mobile phones has come the freedom not to be tied to an office desk and women are grasping that opportunity to get the work/life balance they are joyful with. It is at that moment no longer thouhgt unprofessional to have a home office, in fact it’s something to be envyed. These women are not striving ‘to have it all’ but to have more control and flexibility in their working lievs. Although sometimes that involves a drop in income that is balanced by the freedom to set their own working hours, if need be around their family commitments, and the exhilaration and excitement that coems with creating new businesses – of which are already growing into multi-million pound companies. What we are seeing is the danwing of the age of the female entrepreneur.
